Unless betyder samma sak som if...not. Liksom if, följs unless av ett tempus som uttrycker nutid eller dåtid, eller av perfekt (aldrig av konditionalis). Unless används istället för if...not i alla sorts villkorssatser. Satsernas ordningsföljd har ingen betydelse när unless används.
