Att formulera frågor i återgivet tal
Ordningsföljd
När man återger frågor, använder man normal ordningsföljd, dvs subjektet kommer före verbet och det är inte nödvändigt att använda 'do' eller 'did':
Exempel

Slutna frågor (Yes / no)
Den här typen av frågor återges genom att man använder 'ask' + 'if / whether' + sats:

Frågeord
Den här typen av fråga återges genom att man använder 'ask' (eller ett annat verb som "ask") + frågeord + sats. Frågan finns i satsen, med normal ordningsföljd och med de nödvändiga ändringarna av tempus.
