Enkel futurum och dess funktioner

Enkel futurum syftar på en tid efter nutid och uttrycker ett faktum eller att man är säker på något. I det här fallet finns ingen särskild inställning eller attityd till det som sker.

Enkel futurum används:

För att förutsäga en framtida händelse:
It will rain tomorrow.
Tillsammans med I eller We, för att uttrycka ett spontant beslut:
I'll pay for the tickets by credit card.
För att uttrycka villighet: I'll do the washing-up.
He'll carry your bag for you.
I nekande form, för att utrycka ovillighet:
The baby won't eat his soup.
I won't leave until I've seen the manager!
Med I i frågande form tillsammans med "shall", för att erbjuda sig att göra något:
Shall I open the window?
Med we i frågande form tillsammans med "shall", för att föreslå något:
Shall we go to the cinema tonight?
Med I i frågande form tillsammans med "shall", för att be om råd eller instruktioner:
What shall I tell the boss about this money?
Tillsammans med you, för att ge order:
You will do exactly as I say.
Tillsammans med you i frågande form, för ge en inbjudan:
Will you come to the dance with me?
Will you marry me?

Notera:I modern engelska används will oftare än shall. Shall används huvudsakligen tillsammans med I och we för att erbjuda eller föreslå något, eller för att be om råd (se exemplen ovan). I andra person (you, he, she, they) används shall endast i litterära eller poetiska situationer, e.g. "With rings on her fingers and bells on her toes, She shall have music wherever she goes."
