I meningar med konditionalis typ 3, kan man använda perfektformen av konditionalis i presens.

If-sats (villkor)	Huvudsats (resulat)
If + pluskvamperfekt	perfect continuous conditional
Om detta hade hänt	skulle detta ha hållit på att hända.

Funktion

Perfect continuous conditional kan användas i meningar med konditionalis typ 3. Formen syftar på det ouppnådda resulatet av agerandet it if-satsen, och uttrycker detta resultat som ett oavslutat eller pågående agerande.

Exempel

If the weather had been better (men det var det inte), I'd have been sitting in the garden when he arrived (men det gjorde jag inte).
If she hadn't got a job in London (men det gjorde hon), she would have been working in Paris (men det gjorde hon inte).
If I had had a ball I would have been playing football.
If I had known it was dangerous I wouldn't have been climbing that cliff.

Perfect continuous conditional

Formen perfect continuous conditional, är för alla verb, sammansatt av fyra delar:
would + have + been + presens particip
Presens particip bildas genom att man lägger till -ing efter verbets grundform.

Subjekt	+ would	+ have	+ been	+ presens particip
He	would	have	been	staying
They	would	have	been	going
